Minnesota State University Moorhead's (MSUM) National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Collegiate Sertoma Club is a branch of the Fargo-Moorhead Sertoma Club. The chapter consists of both undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members.
The president of the club for the 2005-2006 school year is senior Rachel Bachmeier, and the vice president is senior student Jason Leyendecker. The secretary this year is Nicole Bender, a senior. The treasurer is Jessica Schultz, who is a graduate student. Heidi Bottelberghe, a junior, is the historian, and senior student, Megan Brager, is the Sertoma student representative. The NSSLHA faculty advisor is Dr. Mary Drake and the Sertoma faculty advisor is Bruce Hanson. The club has meetings one time per month with some extra group functions occasionally.
The club is very active in both fundraising and public awareness activities. The club participates in several fundraisers each semester. A portion of the funds raised go to such charities as Universal Playground (UP), the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). Another portion of the money goes into a fund to assist students who want to attend the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) national convention and the Minnesota Speech-Language Hearing Association (MSHA) state convention.
The club also participates at Big Iron in September and the MSUM Hendrix Health Fair each April where members provide free hearing and voice screenings as well as speech, language, and hearing information. Club members also volunteer at FM Sertoma functions such as Holiday Lights and Flag Days.
