The Fargo–Moorhead Sertoma Club’s affiliation with the Speech Language Hearing Sciences Department at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) is more than a title . . . the MSUM-Sertoma Auditory Disorders Clinic.  It is a strong and growing relationship that extends beyond the club’s generous financial support and is fostered by the on-going cooperative participation by club members, MSUM faculty and students.  Recent examples of this cooperation include regular attendance by MSUM department members and students at the club’s weekly meetings, working in partnership on various fundraising projects and club membership by individual MSUM department members with the election of MSUM members/faculty to leadership positions within the local club.

The Fargo-Moorhead Sertoma Club has contributed over $30,000 during the last three years to the program at MSUM.  These contributions have allowed the department to complete various major projects such as conversion of the existing black and white closed circuit television system used for clinical observation to color, completely refurbishing the on-campus speech and hearing clinic, purchasing clinical services for clients unable to pay and providing needed electronic devices to assist those with limited oral expression. In addition the club has supported numerous minor projects that have been routinely funded to support the clinic clients and MSUM students.

In conclusion, the affiliation between the Fargo-Moorhead Sertoma Club and MSUM has truly been a “win-win” partnership as together they build a better community for individuals with communication impairments
